Under One Touch Switch, your new provider does the cancelling. Virgin Media's own explainer says the new provider “handles everything about the switch for you, including cancelling with your old provider”, and that “You'll also no longer need to provide a 30-day notice period.” You start with the new provider and do not need to call Virgin Media.
Virgin Media's leaving page says to “Chat to us online or call 150 from a Virgin Media phone (or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone).” The same page frames that contact as a chance to find you a better package, so expect an offer first, and you can say no.
You need to give 30 days' notice. After your minimum term, which is normally 24 months, the contract rolls monthly and you can leave with 30 days' notice and no early disconnection fee.
If you are still in your minimum term, you may pay an early disconnection fee, and Virgin Media says it will tell you the amount before you cancel. The fee applies after the 30-day notice period: with five months left, you pay 30 days' notice and then the fee for the remaining four. VAT has been charged on these fees since 1 April 2022.
Two ways it can be less. Within 14 days of signing up you can cancel without the fee. And if you are moving home to somewhere in the UK that Virgin Media's network does not reach, it says the fee can be credited back.
Check and pay the closing bill, which covers your service and usage up to the disconnection date. Virgin Media either collects the equipment or sends you a pack to return it free; if it is not returned, you may be charged for it. Emails in a Virgin Media account are lost 90 days after disconnection, so move anything you want to keep before then.
