How do I cancel Sky?

Give Sky 31 days' notice for TV and 14 for broadband. If you are switching broadband to another provider the new one cancels Sky for you, and leaving inside a minimum term costs an early termination charge.

Mind My Money works through leaving Sky with you and checks the last payment and any credit coming back.

This is for anyone leaving Sky, whether it is the TV, the broadband or both, because the two have different rules. Everything is from Sky's own help articles as they read on 19 September 2026.

Moving your broadband to another provider

If you are switching broadband and phone to someone else, you normally do not contact Sky at all. Sky's words: “They'll let us know you want to cancel your Sky Broadband & Talk - so you don't have to. Your Sky Broadband & Talk will cancel automatically when your new service is activated.”

That covers broadband and landline only. Sky TV and Sky Mobile stay active and have to be cancelled separately.

Cancelling Sky TV, or broadband without switching

Sky TV needs 31 days' notice. The notice period cannot end before your minimum term finishes, and most Sky products have a minimum term of 12 or 24 months. Sky Stream is the exception: it is a 31-day rolling contract with no cancellation charges.

Sky Broadband needs 14 days' notice, unless you are in your cooling-off period or switching as above.

Sky's help articles on cancelling end with its contact options. And one instruction worth following: “Please don't cancel your Direct Debit or any other ongoing payment with us, as further payment may still be due.”

What leaving early costs

Inside a minimum term, Sky charges an early termination charge, paid upfront. It is worked out from the days left in your term and your monthly price, less the costs Sky saves by not serving you and a discount for being paid early. Sky's own example: broadband and line rental at £38 a month, three months left, a charge of £68.

Once the minimum term is over, there is no early termination charge. Your contract end date is worth looking up before anything else, because a few weeks can make the charge disappear.

Sky's cooling-off period for new customers is 31 days, longer than the 14 the law requires, and cancelling inside it avoids the charge.

After it ends

Sky takes payment a month in advance, so “you might still be billed for the full month ahead after your service has been cancelled.” Any credit left on the account goes back to your bank account after 45 days. Return the equipment using the returns method Sky gives you.

Where Mind My Money comes into it

Mind My Money goes through your spending on your own computer, so it sees what you pay Sky and when. Where you decide to leave, it works through it with you and then checks your statements for the last payment and the credit coming back.

Or have it done with you
