How do I cancel Planet Fitness?

Send a letter to your home club or go there in person, or use the online member portal where your club allows it. Notice by the 10th stops that month's charge on the 17th.

Mind My Money finds the memberships still charging you and works through cancelling them with you.

This is for anyone paying for a gym they no longer go to, starting with the one people search for most. Everything here is from Planet Fitness's own customer-service and membership pages as they read on 19 September 2026.

The three ways Planet Fitness accepts

Planet Fitness says you can end a membership by sending a letter to your home club, by going to your home club in person, or by logging in to the member portal on its website. It adds that “Some policies and procedures may vary by location based on state and local guidelines,” so if the portal does not offer it for your club, use one of the other two.

Whichever way you choose, ask for or keep something in writing that shows the date your request arrived, because the dates below are what decide your last charge.

The dates that decide what you pay

The monthly charge is taken on the 17th. In Planet Fitness's words, “to stop the billing of your monthly membership on the 17th, the club must receive notice of your request to end your membership by the 10th of the month.” Miss the 10th and you pay one more month.

The annual fee is $49 on top of the monthly price, and it has its own deadline: “your request must be received by the club by the 25th of the month prior to the annual fee date.”

A minimum term. Some memberships come with a 12-month commitment. Leave before it ends and “a $58 buyout fee is required.” A No Commitment membership can be cancelled at any time without a fee.

Other gyms

Every gym sets its own terms, so the three things to find in yours are the same: how it accepts a cancellation, the notice it needs before the next charge, and any annual fee or minimum term with its own deadline. They are usually in the membership agreement you signed and on the gym's own help pages.

In the United States there is no federal rule today that makes a gym let you cancel online. The FTC's own March 2026 notice refers to its 2024 “click to cancel” rule as vacated, and the agency has opened a new rulemaking. Rules in your state may still apply.

After you have cancelled

Check your bank or card statement after the next billing date. The charge on the 17th, and the annual fee when it falls due, should not appear. If one does, the dated proof of your request is what you take back to the club.

Where Mind My Money comes into it

Mind My Money goes through your spending on your own computer and finds the memberships still charging you, including an annual fee that shows up once a year and is easy to forget. It asks whether you still want each one, and where you do not, it works through the cancellation with you and checks your statement afterwards that the charges stopped.

The same method for everything else you pay for is on how to find all your subscriptions.

Or have it done for you

Let it find the rest of them.

Runs on your own computer. Pay what you decide, including nothing.
