Call 1-800-934-6489, schedule a call or visit a store, because Xfinity has no online cancel. You owe an early termination fee only on a term contract, and not at all if you keep another Comcast service.
Mind My Money prepares the call with you and reads your Xfinity account afterwards to see that the service has ended.
This is for anyone ending Xfinity internet, TV or phone service from Comcast. Xfinity's own pages, its published plan data and its standard contract were read on 30 September 2026.
Xfinity's cancel page says: “If you need to cancel, call us at 1-800-934-6489, schedule a call or visit an Xfinity Store.” Before that it offers to move, pause or lower your bill instead, and you can say no. A store has one advantage over the phone, which is that you leave with a printed receipt, and the forum threads where billing carried on after a “confirmed” cancellation are nearly all phone calls.
People are often surprised that the state click-to-cancel laws do not help here. California's, New York's, Colorado's and Minnesota's all exclude services run under a cable franchise or regulated by the FCC, which covers Comcast, so it can keep cancelling to the phone and the store even for customers who signed up online. That is the difference between Xfinity and a gym such as Planet Fitness, which New York law makes accept a cancellation online.
Xfinity publishes a file with the price label of every plan it currently offers, and on 30 September 2026 it listed 98,430 of them. About 69 per cent need no contract and carry no early termination fee. The other 31 per cent need a 12-month contract with a starting fee of $110, or a 24-month contract with a starting fee of $230. None of the contract plans in the file had been published after December 2025, and Comcast has sold its five-year price guarantee without an annual contract since April 2025, so if you signed up this year you are probably not on one. Your own agreement settles it.
If you are on a contract, Xfinity's standard contract has four rules that decide the fee, and none of the ranking pages quotes them:
Use the Digital Return Center at xfinity.com/returns, which works even after your account is disconnected, and send back only the device, the remote and the power cord. Before you print a label, check that the serial number on the device matches the one you selected, which Xfinity now asks you to do. At a store the equipment is removed from your account straight away and you get a receipt; by UPS, “Keep the top portion of the label with the tracking number included. This will be your receipt.” Allow up to two weeks for a posted return to show. Xfinity does not publish what it charges for equipment that is not returned.
This is the part that can cost more than any fee, if the address is the login for your bank or anything else that sends codes to it. Xfinity says a comcast.net address keeps working after you leave only if you logged in to it in the 90 days before your disconnection date, and then only while you log in at least once every nine months. Its email policy says inactive accounts are closed after 90 days of notices and that “Once an email account is closed, the contents are not recoverable.”
So before you cancel, log in, move the logins that use the address to another one, and export what you want to keep at export.xfinity.com. Comcast.net accounts are also being moved to Yahoo Mail during 2025 and 2026, and Yahoo warns about messages saying you will lose the address unless you accept its terms immediately, which are phishing.
Xfinity warns that the last bill “may have items not on prior bills, like prorates or equipment charges”, and in some cases you are owed a refund. Read it line by line against what you expected, and keep the store receipt or the label stub and any confirmation number until it is settled. If you keep only Xfinity Mobile, that costs a monthly fee of its own.
Mind My Money goes through your spending on your own computer, so it sees what you pay Xfinity every month. Where you decide to cancel, it helps you prepare for the call, then reads your Xfinity account to see that the service has ended, and counts the saving only once it has.
Runs on your own computer, and the app is free.
