How do I cancel Amazon Prime?

Sign in to the Amazon site you joined Prime on, open the Prime membership page and choose to end it. Then reload that page and check it says the membership is ending rather than renewing.

Mind My Money does it in a browser on your own computer once you say yes, and reads the page again afterwards.

Cancelling Prime takes a few minutes. Being sure it worked takes one more, and that is the step worth not skipping. This page is written from a cancellation we did on amazon.de on 15 September 2026, including the first attempt, which did not take.

First, work out which Amazon you are paying

Prime belongs to one Amazon site. amazon.de, amazon.co.uk and amazon.com are separate accounts with separate sign-ins, and a membership on one of them does not appear on the others. That matters more than it sounds, because the card we were looking at was paying for two Prime memberships at once for six months, most likely on two different sites.

Your bank statement can tell you which is which. A charge of exactly the same amount every month is billed in your own currency. A charge that drifts by a few cents from month to month (ours went €6.31, €6.56, €6.50, €6.37) is being converted from another currency, so it is a site that bills in another currency. Sign in to the site whose amount matches.

Check what else is on the account

Before ending anything, open Your Memberships & Subscriptions on that site and see what is listed. Channels added through Prime Video, Audible and Kindle Unlimited are separate subscriptions and are listed there too, and you want to know what you have before you change it. On ours there was exactly one line, the Prime membership, so there was nothing else to think about.

The same page shows the price, the renewal date and the card it bills, and its payment history lists every charge. That is how we matched the €8.99 on the 25th of each month on the bank statement to this membership, ten payments in a row.

The steps on amazon.de

As we did them on 15 September 2026, with the site showing English labels:

  1. Sign in and go to the Prime membership page (Amazon calls it Prime Central).
  2. Choose End membership and benefits.
  3. Go through the screens that follow until you reach the one that ends it.
  4. On the last screen, choose to cancel at the end of the period you have paid for. Ours read Cancel before next billing on 24/09/2026. You keep Prime until that date, and nothing you have paid for is lost.

Then check that it took

Go back to the Prime membership page and reload it. If the cancellation worked, it says the membership is ending, and ours read Membership ending 24 September 2026. If it still says the membership renews on a date, nothing has been cancelled, whatever the screen before it looked like.

This is the part that caught us. The first time through, every screen went by, the site went back to the shop, and the membership page still said it would renew on the 24th. The click on the last button had landed on the part of it that does nothing (our software did the clicking, and a person with a mouse is less likely to hit that), so nothing had been cancelled and nothing said so. Going through it a second time worked, and the page changed to say it was ending. If we had trusted the first attempt, the next €8.99 would have arrived as usual.

After the end date, the last check is the statement itself: the monthly charge should simply stop appearing.

On amazon.com (United States)

Amazon's instruction is short: go to Cancel Your Prime Membership and follow the prompts, or use the options on your Prime membership page. If you joined through Google Play on Android, you cancel in Google's subscriptions instead, and if Prime came with another company's service, you cancel with that company.

Getting money back. Amazon's Prime terms (last updated 14 August 2026) say that if you cancel within three business days of signing up, or of a free trial turning into a paid membership, you get the fee back, less the value of any Prime benefits used in those three days. At any other time you get it back only if you and your account “did not make any eligible purchases or take advantage of Prime benefits since your latest Prime membership charge.”

What keeps billing. Channels you added through Prime Video carry on without Prime: “Subscriptions on Prime Video, like Paramount+, will continue once your Prime Membership ends.” Cancel those separately in Memberships & Subscriptions. Amazon also offers to pause Prime instead, for a month or up to a year, from the membership page.

On amazon.co.uk (United Kingdom)

Go to Your Amazon Prime Membership, select Manage, then Update, Cancel and More, and follow the instructions. The same path stops a free trial from turning into a paid membership. Sign-ups made in the Android app are managed in Google's subscriptions.

The UK refund rule is different from the US one. Amazon's UK page says members who have not placed an order using Prime get a full refund, members who have only used Prime delivery may get a partial refund, and “If the other benefits (Prime Video, Prime Music, or Prime Gaming) have been used, members aren't eligible for a refund.”

On either site, the check at the end is the one from amazon.de above: reload the membership page and read whether it now says ending or renews. The US and UK steps are from Amazon's help pages as they read on 19 September 2026.

If you are cancelling Prime because you are going through all your subscriptions, the whole method is on how to find all your subscriptions.

Where Mind My Money comes into it

Mind My Money found this membership in the first place, as one of two Amazon series on one card, and matched it to the site it belonged to. It then did the cancellation in a browser on the person's own computer, after they said yes, and reloaded the membership page afterwards to read what it said. That reload is why the first attempt was caught.

Or have it done for you

Let it find the rest of them.
