How do I cancel Netflix?

In your Netflix account go to Manage your membership and choose Cancel and then Finish Cancellation. If there is no Cancel option another company bills you for Netflix and you cancel with them.

Mind My Money finds Netflix however it is billed and cancels it with you if you say so.

Cancelling Netflix takes a minute when Netflix bills you directly. The time goes on the other cases: paying through Apple or a phone or TV provider, and the account that starts charging again after you thought it was gone. All of it is from Netflix's own help centre as it read on 19 September 2026.

If Netflix bills you directly

  1. Go to the Manage your membership page in your Netflix account, signing in if you need to.
  2. Choose Cancel.
  3. Under Cancel, choose Finish Cancellation.

Netflix then sends a confirmation email to the address on the account. Keep it, because it is your proof. Netflix is also clear that signing out or deleting the app does nothing: “This is the only way to cancel your account and end your membership.”

If you cancel partway through a month, you can keep watching until the end of the period you have paid for, and the account closes then. Your Payment History shows the date.

If someone else bills you for it

If there is no Cancel option in your account, another company is taking the payment. Netflix's instruction is to look under Membership on your Account page, where you will find either a link to cancel or a note to contact that company, and to cancel with them.

Through Apple, you cancel in your Apple subscriptions (see how to cancel an Apple subscription), and Netflix says the account is then put on hold for 30 days before it is closed. It may still renew if you cancel less than 24 hours before the renewal date.

The one that charges twice. If you once paid through Apple and moved to paying Netflix directly at any point since 25 October 2021, Netflix says you must also cancel the subscription through Apple, “to avoid future charges from Apple.” That is a Netflix charge and an Apple charge for the same thing, and it is worth looking for on your statement.

Charged again after you cancelled

Netflix's own explanation is that “you or someone who was using your account may have accidentally restarted it.” Its fix: go to netflix.com/cancelplan, choose Finish Cancellation, then change the password at netflix.com/password with Sign out of all devices ticked, so that nobody else in the household can restart it.

Pausing instead, and what Netflix keeps

On the cancel page Netflix offers to pause the membership for a month instead, up to three months in total. It is not offered on the Basic plan or when you pay by Direct Debit, gift card and some partners, and when the pause ends you are charged your plan's price again.

After you cancel, Netflix keeps your viewing activity, ratings and account details for 24 months, so rejoining picks up where you left off, and then deletes the account. To delete it sooner, there is a Delete account option in the Security section of your account page.

Where Mind My Money comes into it

Mind My Money goes through your spending on your own computer and puts a name on every charge, so a Netflix subscription billed through Apple or a phone contract shows up as what it is, and so does paying for it twice. It asks you whether to keep it, and in a house where someone watches every day the answer may well be yes. If it is no, it cancels with you and checks afterwards that it took.

The same method for everything else you pay for is on how to find all your subscriptions.

Or have it done for you

Let it find the rest of them.

Runs on your own computer. Pay what you decide, including nothing.
